Recently, the National Energy Administration released the statistics of the national power industry in the first half of the year. From January to June this year, the electricity consumption of the national primary industry was 47.5 billion kilowatt-hours, up 5.9%. The secondary industry used 1.66 trillion kilowatt-hours of electricity, up 11.7 percent year on year, while the tertiary industry used 238.4 billion kilowatt-hours, up 15.3 percent. Six energy-intensive industries, including electric power, iron and steel, building materials, non-ferrous metals, and chemical and petrochemical industries, are still the main driving forces for the growth of electricity consumption in China.
Six energy-intensive industries account for two-thirds of the secondary industry's electricity consumption and more than half of China's electricity consumption, the National Energy Administration said in an interview. Another analyst pointed out that with the comprehensive start of the construction of affordable housing in China in the future, it will drive the demand for products related to the steel, building materials and cement industries, and the demand for electricity in high-energy industries may further increase.
Electricity consumption has always been known as the "weather vane" of economic development, industry insiders pointed out that the contrast between the electricity consumption of secondary and tertiary industries shows that the proportion of tertiary industry in the entire economic structure is still small, which is also questioning the effect of domestic economic restructuring.
